Fabienne's diary: Report of yesterday's rescue ... 35 are safe with us.

Friday, March 5, 2021

Yesterday morning we went again, not that we like to do that because it is always very tough, but okay, we went to a killing station again. It was not as long a journey as the last time so we were there promptly at 10 am. There are killing stations all over Spain, that's almost a cultural right, no matter how bad. We don't reveal where we are going, we were forbidden. But for us, rescuing the dogs, wherever they come from, counts.

When we arrived there were only the volunteers, whom we have known for years, who were waiting for us. Two warm, dear volunteers. It was years ago that I met them, so that was very positive, that part then ...

First we were briefed what we were allowed and not allowed to do. Above all, no photos were allowed, no telephones, do not go in the lofts or in the side paths, never stray somewhere alone. One of the men there chased us off on a very unpleasant way, because we weren't going fast enough, we really had to move on. We didn't even get the chance to put our saved souls in our vehicles in a decent way and quietly. It was actually quite nerve-racking. They brought them to us on a choke chain, dragged after them, and we took them over in the best possible way we could.

In the days before, apparently all the little dogs and puppies were taken away by other organisations, the dogs that were still there were the difficult dogs. Many of them were so scared that if they just saw one of the employees they completely wet themselves. It couldn't be clearer. It was heartbreaking and heartbreaking… You can't afford to think about that, and don't moan about it because you're there to save them and afterwards you can let your emotions run wild.

35 went with us, unfortunately there are no small dogs. But they are also dear ones who have just as much right to rescue and have the right to life.

We completely emptied the killing station except for 3 dogs, ... One belonged to a homeless man who came to pick him up, and two others had been there for 5 years and were not allowed to leave, because the judge did not release them, their owner was in prison. So intensely sad and so intensely horrible.

I am not sure if this video is from the rescue reported above, or the one before that.
