She was used to guard a building site. And now the work was finished. She was no longer needed - she had to leave that minute. Forget the fact that she had recently given birth to 8 puppies, barely a month before. No, said the man at our gate. He didn't want to keep her nor her puppies - he turned and swaggered away, full of arrogance without an ounce of compassion. What could we do? We had not option. At the very least he'd brought them to us and not the killing station. Though if we had refused, there is no doubt at all that they would have been his next stop. Amber was very skinny, very obedient but confused and bewildered. We promised her we would do the very best for her. Amber's story is not unique - we see this sort of thing every single day. But Amber herself is unique, as are each of her puppies. All little stars in the making and mama herself the biggest star. Now this beautiful dog needs a loving forever home. She's a Mechelse Herder - in English a Malinois or Belgian Shepherd Dog - the breed is noted for its watchful, protective, alert and friendly character. Mama Amber has all these and much more. Take a look at her page, which also has a video of Amber with her pups, such a friendly soul.
Such a beautiful dog.
Eight sweet puppies.

Amber needs a loving home
Pussycat Charlotte
How gorgeous is she? Just look at her - so beautiful, such pretty markings, such an unusual colour.
How could anyone resist her? She's still a kitten - only six months old. A little cat who deserves to be spoilt and loved in a foreveer home. Who will take her into their heart?
Please take me home!

Martin, Corina and Sixto - from cage to care
Martin, our old man of 13, Corina, our dachshund and sweet Sixto, were rescued from the house of a hunter ... Three beating hearts, each adorable in a different way, were saved by a miracle.
Our old boy MARTIN lived for 13 years in a suffocating cage, where he was starved so that he would hunt well. Martin has never known what it is to have a basket or to experience love. For all those long years he didn't know them. The poor beast never experienced fredom and yet he doesn't ask for much more: some warmth and a little love, someone who loves him, if only for a moment ...
His companion, CORINA, a dachshund, is still so young but she's already lived her her entire life in a cage. She's a very sweet and social girl. Cuddling is her favourite thing. She live with Martin and SIXTO, a small Maneto Podenco, who's already endured 8 years locked up, in other words for his entire life.
For Sixto this is all very difficult. He does not understand at all ... He's still a little scared but he has a heart of gold. He looks around, observes everything and is slowly learning that things can be different, that people can be nice.
These three have never known a hug, let alone a warm basket or a bowl of good food. These things don't exist in the life they have had so far, unknow and unloved.
But all that will change now.

MARTIN
Our gentle oldie - locked up for 13 years without love or food.

CORINA
Poor little girl has also been locked up her whole life - eight long years.

SIXTO
A scared little fellow with a heart of gold who's learning that people can be nice.
Adhema now Freek in Holland.
Good morning
In Schiphol, he looked up curiously from his bench - directly at us. Oops, he was smaller than we thought. But incredibly fun and inquisitive.

His harness, which we had bought at the pet store, proved to be too big. He didn't want any water. He shivered, though. Such a long journey in a crate, together with another dog, is not inconsiderable.
I already had wet tissues in my pocket ready for my grandchildren's runny noses when they came to me. Now there were also poop bags and paper handkerchiefs. Just as well because after 50 meters he left a large puddle and then walked another 50 metres and did a thick poo. Right in the midddle of Schiphol's white floor! We cleaned it up carefully.
Finding it all new and a bit strange, we walked with our Freek (which is the name we chose together
with the grandchildren) through Schiphol. In the car he was calm, although occasionally he looked rather miserably out of the window.
He has now been with us for two days. He sleeps, eats, walks, look about him and observes us.
His only problem, he doesn't like being left at night. Then he starts yelping an barking. So one of us is sleeping near the bench.
During the day we practice. We just go away and wait. We make the intervals longer and longer. A few days will do the trick. That's for sure. Things are getting better. The grandchildren are regular visitors and are already crazy about him.
Last night he did not go outside. Too cold and too wet! A real Spanish senor! Yet he must get used to the Dutch winters. Maybe we'll buy a jacket for him? I think that's would be sensible. For now we are discovering who he is and he is finding out who we are. So together we are trying to 'read' each other.
He doesnn't play. The grandchildren bought toys for him. But he just looks at them, doesn't know what to do with them. So let's let him recover first.

Hmmm. I've arrived. Where now?

This is a nice warm blanket. I think I'll like it here.

A special friend already!
Our Nessy - a story of love and perseverance!
Nessy has come a long way - below you can see the before and after photographs from when she first came to us and the progress of her treatment for leishmania.
When Nessy first came to us, we decided not to put her on the site. She had open wounds, infected feet, a very sick skin and bleeding ears. She was in an indescribably poor state and so we felt we wanted to treat her and continue the treatment for a while ...
She was spotted on the street and she was there for months but no-one gave her a chance. It was clear that she had leishmania and no one wanted to spend a penny to give her a chance.
When one of our volunteers was willing to give her that chance, with our help, we started treating our Nessy. It was a long and difficult process, but we all persevered and gradually, little by little, this sick, abandoned Boxer got better, thanks to love and perseverance.
Leishmanias is is a terrible disease if not properly treated and monitored; but there is often, very often, a strong possibility that the dog can be saved. Nessy is yet another example of this fact.
For many people, Leishmania is a dreaded disease. For us, who have to cope with it every day, it is nothing more than a disease and, provided that proper treatment and support is available, there is no reason not to give the dog a chance.
I myself have had 20 years of dealing with many affected dogs. I myself have always kept dogs with Leishmania and they have rarely died of it. Of course you need to catch it on time and treat it carefully. But the fact that an animal has it should definitely not be a reason to abandon the animals to their fate.
Our Nessy has been saved and the gratitude of this lovable character is more than I can describe.

Hello dear people,
Have you guys recognised me yet? I was calledd Yarno, but now I'm called YOLO, which suits me much better.
I wanted to let you know that everything is going super well with me (as you can see in my beautiful small photos).
I have been my masters' greatest treasure for eight months now. I like to run around in my (large!) garden and doze in my warm basket (and sometimes in bed, lol).
Also, I really, really like garbage. I can have great fun with it and strew it all around the living room. Well, they shouldn't really leave things like that where I can get at them because - hey, I am and always will be a Boxer boy ;-)
My happiness is overflowing and that is why I want to thank you all with lots of paw shakes.
Greetings,
Yolo

Ignore the serious face! I'm soo happy. Who wouldn't be with a loving home and a big pink bone!!!
Our Christmas Dogs are lucky dogs - thanks to you!

Dear People,
Thank you so much for your heartwarming reaction. All our fifty dogs were bought free by you - within four hours! Such a fabulous Christmas present. Thank you on behalf of the fifty lucky ones.

Yes, thanks to you all each dog child was given a name and a chance of a new life.
We would like to thank everyone once again for the many expressions of support and compassion for these poor wretches, whose days were numbered.
Several of these dogs will have large medical expenses including:
BILLIE - needs surgery on his leg after chain he was tetherd with caused years of irrevocable damage.
FELIZ - can only hold himself in a sitting position; walking can be difficult. We fear that he was born that way ...
TROIKA - right after we had rescued him we noted that he had a serious infection and pneumonia ...
FLINN - has a brutal cut ear, which gave him enormous pains. We are helping him with this.
DIVA - has a broken leg with multiple fractures and needs surgery ...
Some of the dogs are very weak from having sat too long in the killing station, without food.
Unfortunately some of the puppies are fighting for their lives.
The other dogs are adjusting well to their improved conditions. They are so grateful and happy to be rescued, their friendship and gratitude knows no bounds.
Thank you
Fabienne
To anyone who has donated but has yet to let us know the doggie's name, could you get in touch please.
