Eight little babies found in a field ...

Another 8 tiny siblings scooped from the field.

A farmer from the interior found these eight pups when he was leaving his field. That's what he told us anyway.

He put them into a large chicken cage. They were so dirty, so dirty. And weak and malnourished.
It took some weeks before they were fully fit and back to their correct weight. We never found her mother. According to the farmer she was not there! If you can believe him.

When will Spain ever take animal cruelty seriously?  It's unbelievable but true - it remains indifferent despite the daily cost. Every single time you see it you think 'why are such things allowed by the government?'

Working gradually to change people's awareness, to change people's mental attitude you can start to do something to change this mess, to do something to reduce this suffering. A simple sterilization project, going into schools explaining, talking to the children, to the parents.

It is a drop in the ocean, because we don't get any cooperation but, well, complaining doesn't save lives. We must battle through, perhaps we are just a drop in the ocean, but every life is one of those drops and every life matters.

Happiness is a warm lap.

More of our lovely students with some of our doggies.

Cuddles and sunshine. What could be better!

There are such good people out there ...

With all the suffering endured by our innocent dogs and cats, when we see the almost unbelievable cruelty and callousness of those that have neglected and harmed them, it's heartening to know there are still so many good people out there. We are so grateful to all those amazing souls - our adopters, our volunteers and those who are willing to give even the oldest, most damaged dogs and cats a chance to know love and happiness.

Here are just a few of our special ones who have now been reserved and whom we trust will soon fly away to wonderful, loving forever homes.

One Eye

Another victim of the killing station. A small dog, callously thrown in among large and smaller dogs, as is their horrible custom. Being so tiny she was attacked and was too fragile to defend herself. She was so badly hurt she lost her eye. Somehow, by some miracle she survived. Read more about this sweet little dog in Fabienne's Diary.

Truka

She thought she'd be going home with her beloved boss. She thought it was just a visit. But no. Her boss didn't want her any more and brought her along, together with her basket, her jacket, her toys and her bowl. How can anyone be so callous. So unfeeling.

Truka is a brave soul. She was frightened and bewildered in the Refugio, she'd never known anything like it - the noise the stress and the eerie silence when night falls. But she bore it all patiently. And now, thank goodness, this gentle soul is reserved. Read more in Fabienne's Diary.

Pequi

They wanted a beautiful little dog. But dogs need care, and walks and love. That became too much trouble so they took her back to the breeder - but the breeder didn't want her, she had others. Luckily she came to us and her new life can begin, we won't ever let any harm to come to her. Now, we are so happy to say that she has been reserved and soon she'll have the loving always home she deserves.

Our Nelson

Our NELSON
with us since 01/31/2016

Dear ACE / SHIN TEAM

Barely a month has passed and it seems as if Nelson has been with us much longer, yet and it was only a month ago.

The adjustment took just over a week, in fact even shorter.

He immediately felt so at home with us and our two other dogs.

He did need to adjust more to the sounds outside and the characters of our dogs but otherwise he is now very familiar with all the sounds of our normal lives.

Lately when we had a few hours of sun we made a few attempts to get him used to the noises outside.

It's hard not to hug Nelson all the time because he's so cute, mischievous, super friendly and so affectionate.

He sleeps in the bed and I don't need to explain how cosy that is.

Today we are going to go to get a few shirts that he can wear under his raincoat.

Herewith a few very recent photos of us together enjoying the early "spring" desert experience ... you have to admit that we are really enjoying each other ... !!!

Dear greetings,

Véronique Spiltoir

More pussycats need your help ....

We have some new pussycats on our site, and sadly there are also some who have been with us a little while and are still waiting for forever homes. They have all had horrible experiences and deserve so much more. Some will have been dumped, like Sharin, others will have been wandering in the streets alone, starving, desperate. The only full story I have is poor Sharin's but the others will all have suffered in various ways.

Sharin is a very nice, chubby honey boy. His owners found him and rescued him. They sometimes go back to their own country and they don't want to take him with them. It's so easy to get rid of a dog or a cat. Too easy. Poor little thing, he's another victim. After being found on the street he thought he finally had a home. Unfortunately it turned out differently and once again he is homeless and we are urgently looking for a new home for him.

Sharin is a very sweet cuddly character who is extremey happy with very little. He's two and a half and badly needs a good home.

Eclipse is a little darling, with unusual markings and the sweetest nature - who could resist her big, beautiful eyes and dear little face.

Marga is stunning to look at. A beautifully marked Tabby with what looks like a bit if Bengal in the mix. Another delighful honey, badly needing a forever home. She's still a baby at 9 months old.

Romano is a ginger puss with superbly lovely eyes. Playful and engaging, all he wants is a boss of his own and a family to love.

Many of the lovely cats on our cats website are already reserved and we hope they will soon be on their way to a happy future. Others have not been so lucky, though they deserve happiness just as much. Please have a look at their pages - it's hard to understand why they are still waiting. Please help Noire, Cassis, Coco, Captain, Cala, Fire and Crambell.
