Fabienne's diary: The hunting season has only just started and here we go again ...

Friday, September 4, 2020

The neighbour of one of our foster families was alarmed that a tubby Podenco was walking around the garbage cans in the small village. A lot of hunters live in that area and there are many horrible cages and closed bunkers where they keep their defenseless dogs until they let them out to hunt.
They are first starved and then allowed to go hunting once they are really hungry.

Dulcinea is a typical Podenco female that is pregnant with her first heat and this would go on for the rest of her life until she drops, literally and figuratively. Heat after heat, to produce hunting dog. She has somehow managed to escape because as she is still young and heavily pregnant, they really would not have just let her go, because she is a money machine for a hunter.

At first she was scared and very suspicious, thinking that they wanted to put her back in the hell she had experienced so young. The trap had to be used, and yes, because she was so hungry, and with her big belly she was caught, but not to go back to hunters but to find happiness with us.

Abortion was no longer possible, she was too far advanced, and at barely 8 months old, which was terrible. And yes, two days after arriving at our place, the time had come. Six sweet little faces came to greet us.

Dulcinea is the most sweet, pleasant, friendly and sympathetic sweetheart, such a sweetheart.  So noble and grateful, so simple and just nice, sweet. When you start a conversation with her, she smiles,
she is beyond herself with happiness with her crazy face . A topper, and certainly one for Podenco enthusiasts.
