Fabienne's Diary - An ode to Staffords and Pitbulls!

 Wednesday, june 29, 2022

We know they are not the easiest dogs, but they are born pure. None of them comes into this world aggressive or overexcited; people do that to them. We ourselves have a lot of Staffords and Pitbulls sitting around, and many shelters are full of them, because they have often, wrongfully, a bad reputation. But people who once had a Stafford or Pitbull never want another breed, and that is because they are actually, if properly trained and supervised, genuinely good dogs.

We would like to make an appeal to share, promote them as well, because every day in the shelter is one day too many, and they are dogs that really have a lot to offer!

I come back to this just today because yesterday our Lupita left for home, a Staffordje inherited from a good friend who unfortunately passed away much too soon, and left her cat and dog to me as an inheritance. Both are older animals but now, after almost a year they are finally home. Lupita left yesterday on the same day that her owner died, day after day on the same day, that can't be a coincidence. She can now look down from above on her two most important treasures, who have a boss again and can come home somewhere after they had so much grief for their deceased owner.

Lupita and Tutu are saved.

EUR 2,500 in the piggy bank for Amber!!!

Monday 27th June 2022

Last week we started a savings campaign for Amber, one of our care dogs who needs an operation and a lot of (medical) care. Within 24 hours the money for the surgery was already saved! And the meter was still running afterwards! Until yesterday, people were still paying in so we now have over EUR 2,500 in our piggy bank. Money that we can certainly use to help Amber on her way up.

Thank you everyone!

Updates on her recovery will follow in her profile & in the Facebook Savings Group urgent medical assistance

Pif has been with us for four years ...

 Saturday 18th June 2022

Our Pif

Pif - another long stayer. Another Mastin. Another gentle fellow who just happens to be a bigger dog, rather than a small, dainty, carry-in-your-rucksack type of dog. Not all Mastins are enormous - because of cross breeding there are bigger ones and smaller ones.

One thing is certain, Mastins are sweet characters. Each of course has its unique and individual characteristics but the breed was raised originally as livestock guardians so they are vigilant and independent. They are also known for their loyalty and affectionate nature.

We love our Pif but four years is too long for a dog to be in a shelter. So please take a look at his page by clicking on his name below his photo. He would reward you with so much love.

Savings campaign- Operation Amber!!!

 Thursday 16 June 2022

Amber's operation (see previous post) will cost no less than EUR 1,800.00. We can really use all the help we can get, because Amber is one of our many care dogs!

Amber's Story:

Amber is a (mini) Labrador in heart and soul, and the most adorable little dog you can imagine. Her life started in the breeding business, and what they have done with her, God knows. She came in as a big wreck with a lot of medical problems. She is incontinent, and has a huge limp. Further examination by the traumatologist showed that she had a torn cruciate ligament in her right knee. There is no other option than to operate on her, but this of course carries a considerable price tag.

Amber knows nothing but nothing, her life consisted only of a cage and producing a litter every fertile period, and that in very poor conditions. She was full of wounds and had something hurting everywhere, she has a (large) permanent scar on her head as if she had been hit on the head. Despite her sad background, Amber is the sweetest dog you can find, a thoroughly good dog, who is social and resigned.

Who can help us by making a donation?

On behalf of our entire team and Amber, THANK YOU!

You can donate via our online-form with Ideal, Paypal or Creditcard: https://ace-charity.org/spaaractie-operatie-amber/

Amber is a (mini) Labrador in heart and soul, and the most adorable doggie you can imagine but... her life started in the breeding business, and what they have done with her, God knows. Further examination by the traumatologist showed that she had a torn cruciate ligament in her right knee. Amber is a rescue dog for people who can handle it; you won't regret her character but the medical care is pretty intense. We want so much for her to be happy but who will take care of her, that is always a big question? In the mean time we give her what we can!

Update Alexandre le Bienvenu ... at last a happy ending

Saturday 11 June 2022

His adopter tells us all about  Alexandre le Bienvenu (now Bruno) who waited 3 years in our refugio for adoption

Bruno is a very sweet, stubborn dog with a heart of gold! From day one he felt at home and is very sweet to everyone. He sleeps with us and listens very well. He loves to cuddle and likes to do so all day ! Rain is not his thing but on the beach he loves the water and the sun. As soon as the sun shines, you can find him outside. I am glad that you saved this sweetheart and that after a long time he has found a golden basket with us. We can't live without him!

To see a little stills video of darling Bruno in his new home, please click here.

Fabienne's Weekly Overview

 Saturday 11 june 2022

This week many volunteers came to visit us and spoil the dogs and cats! We are working hard and improving where we can, because we are never short of ideas,...only if we would win the big lotto! Then our four-legged friends would be in a different place,...I can assure you of that!πŸ˜‰ A lot of dogs got extra attention, were allowed to go out for a day and then you see their faces change, it is only for a short time but it gives them the strength to carry on, because one day they will also go home. We also had the "Hop to happiness" departure this week...in difficult times like these you can only be immeasurably grateful for this. Everyone goes through difficult times, but for four-legged friends who have no one or nothing, no one who cares about them, it's very deep. The many requests for us to take in mothers with puppies and the many dumped dogs and cats running loose, in this heat ... it is heartbreaking. You can't keep up anymore. We continue to put our shoulders to the wheel, and look forward and never backward,...because that way you can achieve much more.... Have a great week!

Eighteen years of Royal Corgis - from Susan to Pickles, Piper to Harris to Willow.

 Sunday 5th June, 2022

source: wikipedia *

For the past few days, Britain has been celebrating the Platinum Jubilee of her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth. This remarkable woman has reigned for an astounding 70 years and is the first monarch to do so. Even republicans recognise and appreciate her calmness, her humour and her years of unflinching devotion to duty.

Add to those attributes her love of animals - especially horses and dogs. It's a well known fact in Britain, and perhaps further afield, that Queen Elizabeth 11 goes nowhere without her beloved Corgis, who travel with her when she leaves Windsor Castle or Buckingham Palace. They have pride of place in the royal household and even have their own special room, with special beds, in the various royal apartments. And you can be sure that the Royal Corgis have had plenty of pampering and treats over the four day holiday.

From being given her first Corgi, Dookie, when she was seven years old she has never been without a Corgi or a Dorgi (a Dashund/Corgi cross.) This last mixed breed said to be the result of an 'accidental encounter' between one of the Queen's Corgis and Princess Margaret's Daschund. Over the years several more Corgies joined the household. Then, on her eighteenth birthday, Princess Elizabeth was given the present of Susan, who founded a dynasty of Royal Corgis in an unbroken line right down to Willow, who is the last of Susan't descendants. Currently the Queen has three dogs, two Corgis and a Dorgi.

Corgis are small herding dogs, originating in Wales. The name derives from the Welsh meaning 'dwarf' and 'dog'. There are two distinct breeds, Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, which is the larger of the two with a different shaped tail. The Pembroke gained enormously in popularity because of the association with the monarch. Queen Elizabeth has owned more than 30 Pembrokes or Corgis since she was a child. For a time they waned in popularity and even became listed a vulnerable breed but recently, partly due to the Netflix series 'The Crown', they have regained some of their former popularity.

Our Toco: so sad, so badly needing a family.

5th June, 2022

The other day Fabienne wrote on Facebook about our sweet Toco, once a beloved family dog but now a shelter dog, with us for over a year.

Today when I was doing my rounds through the hundreds of dogs, I also passed our Toco...but he didn't come, he looked sad and aimless, in front of him. He was once a beloved family dog and today one of the many. Day in and day out, our sweet and beautiful boy is with us now, in a cage,...this month already one year,.... A year away from his familiar surroundings, his daily walks, his friends and bosses around him, a year during which he hoped every day that his time here would be over,... May we ask you to share this inconspicuous but so sweet hiond en masse, who knows there is someone out there who sees him and wants to make him happy,... Toco boy, hang in there because we don't forget you, but we are often powerless even though we want to so badly,....

For more information about Toco please click on his name.

Update: Toco is now in pre-reservation, which is great news. Pre reservation is the first stage in adoption. At this stage other people can go on a waiting list for adoption, in case the proposed adoption doesn't go through. However, in most cases after the first checks are done the next stage is reservation and then adoption.

Long Sitters of the month: "π™Žπ™π˜Όπ™‰π™‡π™€π™” & π™Žπ™ƒπ˜Όπ™‰π™€"

Thursday 2nd June 2022

Stanley and his brother Shane are the only 2 left from a litter of 6 kittens from mum Suerte.

They were scared kittens in the beginning but have made a great progress and learned quickly that people can be sweet too; now they enjoy the hugs you give them and they can't get enough of the attention. They love to play, whoever takes these twins in will never be bored again as it is a joy to watch them!

Because Stanley and Shane have never been separated and are really best friends, they can only be placed together.

For more information about these dear ones, Stanley and Shane, please click on their names.
