Last Saturday morning my husband let our 3 dogs Tobias (12,5y), Billie (also Ace) and Seppe outside. Like an arrow from an arc, Tobias shot after the wild rabbits on the grass. He never came back and when my husband went looking for him he was dead in the back of the garden. Probably something to do with his heart. It was a great shock to us to lose him that way. But as weird as it sounds, we are happy that he left in the heat of the moment and we are sure he did not suffer. We hadn't seen it coming, he was getting a bit older and had some ailments, but otherwise he was still doing fine. We had hoped he would stay with us for a few more years. Together with Billie who came to us from Spain just before Christmas last year, he loved to hunt rats and mice (unfortunately also rabbits).
Almost 11 years ago, he came to us as a shy dog, the underdog as he was then mentioned on the site. Through Ace/Shin we got to know Tobias and through Tobias we got to know Ace/Shin. He was our first Spaniard. We have been a big fan of the organization ever since. Tobias was always in a good mood, but very sensitive. He was very social with both dog and human. In the evening he was in our seat, usually in his regular place, between us, he was strict about that. If we were too close, room had to be made for him. He is so missed. We always expected our old rascal Seppe (14 y) to be the next one we should let go. We hope that he will keep it up for a while because we had to say goodbye to Lana (also Ace) a year ago. Billie will miss him as her soul mate for walking and hunting. She is left somewhat orphaned ...
