This enthusiastic young man is Niko, a Perro de Agua barely 9 months old. In his young life he has already had 3 different owners. The first was tired of him once the small, cute, fluffy puppy grew up and started behaving like an adolescent, the second kept him in the campo and had no time for him, and with the third he was in a small apartment, where he could not work off his energy enough. Three times in a row it was the wrong home for this sweet boy.
Niko is an energetic young dog who still has a lot to learn. He was never allowed to enjoy a decent upbringing, nor an owner who could or wanted to make time for him. But he has a good character, is social with other dogs and just wants to make his owner happy! He needs a lot of exercise, and a boss who wants to work with him, then you get a fantastic dog in return!
Only that does not happen overnight, Niko will be very dependent on the people of the family, they can do everything with him, but what he does is the following: - If you have been away even for a while and he sees you come back he will jump exuberantly and give kisses, but then they are hard, he almost knocks you over. He nips, not to bite but out of silliness, let's say, but that is coming hard, and it has to be worked on. Even if a new person comes in that he does not know, he will bark, out of uncertainty.
But once he knows you, he is the sweetest and most loyal dog you could have, but he really does not know anything yet. At night he sleeps nicely next to your bed, as long as he is with you, then he is happy. He also has some separation anxiety from constantly changing places. He has clearly been left too much to his own devices, pushed from one place to another, as long as they had other needs. This Perro de Agua is not a beginner's dog but someone who has time and love for him, patience and commitment, will get the dog that will be most dear to him in this life!
