Fabienne's Diary: Pharo, his leg had to be amputated urgently, ...

 Thursday 8 October 2020

A hunter came to the vet with one of his Podencos that he had had tied to a chain for months. The chain still on it's leg, which is a very normal thing here for the hunters, so the dogs cannot escape. That's how they lie, day and night with their paw tied to an iron chain. Now the paw looked so strange, blue, ulcerated, and the hunter's question was whether it could be remedied "for a while" without it costing too much. he said, he had enough, one more or less, it didn't matter.

The vet then examined Pharo’s paw and concluded that the paw had lost all feeling and was completely ulcerated. In fact, it was so bad that an amputation was urgent; the hunter had waited too long, and the consequences of this could be life-threatening. When the hunter heard this, he asked if he could take the dog back to take him to the killing station. He wanted no costs, just to get rid of the problem, so easy he thought!

The vet asked if he could contact us and if the hunter would accept it if we took over the dog with costs and all. The great hunter accepted the proposal and disappeared.  So our Pharo came into our midst and is now one of us. He's a really cool guy, super social and crazy, and he's saved! Though he will have to live on three legs ...
