Fabienne's diary: Here we go again, saving some lives from the killing station ...

Friday, November 13, 2020

There were calls from all sides, in fact all day long, every day ... Who can help? Death stations have a lot of dogs waiting there, and counting their days. They insist on saying that they put less of them to sleep but there is another side to that. Due to the COVID situation, many dogs do not even get their 10 days. If they are given up they die a silent death. No one sees or hears it, and when asked about it, they are all adopted, so to speak ... Every day we are despondently asked to rescue a dog, they come from everywhere dumped, hung on the tree, big and difficult dogs, let's say dogs with fractures, with a disease that is treatable but where they don't want to spend a cent on puppies that grow too big. And so on. That is why we went to a killing station in the interior of Spain, where there is no help for dogs that are not easily adoptable, large and medium-sized dogs. There were no little ones at all, they were adopted in an instant, just like everywhere else.We took 38 in total, made no distinction between large or small but took entire sections. There were 260, you can imagine! It was a painful sight, disconsolate eyes staring at you, dark, dirty, old hopeless cages, and almost 90% of the dogs that were there were Staffords again, going mad in their cold, damp, smelly hutches. Many of them they will end up here. Once little puppies who came into the world, pure and without any aggression, and then came into the hands of humans with this as a result. An injection with death as a result. They came into the world with a right to know happiness, but people have given this a different turn and here they are ... loft after loft, after loft, after loft.
There was 1 cage that was dark and black, you could hear that there was a dog in it but you couldn't even see who or what it was. Everyone just passed by. But the soft whine and the paw through the rusted bars caught our attention. Ahead was a big hangar with so many dogs in it, and how - I will spare you the commentary There are no words for it, but it is forever etched on our retinas. The people there were helpful, and happy that we brought so many with us that no one else wanted. But all the “beautiful” dogs were reserved, we were not allowed to take them. Also in the beginning we had to hand over our mobile phones because we were not allowed to take pictures! After we had loaded them one by one, there was a volunteer who knew the life stories of our lucky ones. That is always good thing to have for their new start, and they will get that, a new start, so they can quickly leave the past behind them. Some of them were immediately admitted to our clinic, were in bad shape, but are now being cared for. Each of them will be introduced on the website; they are now our canine children, and each of them will have the chance to find an owner who is right for them, because even though they are all different, each pot has a lid. And we'll go for it. They are so worth it. Give me a little time to introduce each one; they are with us now and that is already a big step. Thanks to all the people who participated and wanted to give one of them a chance !! As always: strong together and carry on !!! Fabienne (the dogs in the images are NOT yet up for adoption!)
