Violeta deserves so much happiness

Our wonderful foster mother, Isabelleke, spotted Violeta on the streets of Alora. She could see that the poor dog was pregnant, and growing bigger as the weeks passed. All Isabelleke could do was give her food; Violeta was far too scared to get into the car. It wasn't safe - she had a few near misses with passing cars - but there was not much more to be done, except keep watch and keep trying.

And then, just as the bond between them was getting strong, when she was almost safe, Violeta disappeared. The container with food was untouched. There was no
doubt what had happened - Violeta had been caught by the authorities. Isabelleke jumped into her old car, praying it would start, and set off for the killing station. And yes, there was Violeta. She'd just given birth to her puppies on a cold hard floor, in a cage surrounded by ten other dogs, large and small. In spite of the conditions she was fiercely protecting her puppies with the small means available to her.

The rule says you have to wait ten days before they will release a dog. If you are lucky the dog may still be alive. But often they get rid of them before that time. The only thing Isabelleke could do was pretend it was her dog. Which means a big fine of more than €100 - for allowing the dog to roam free in the street, not having a chip, a community fine and more. As she stood there, she saw a terrified Mastin being kicked and manhandled into a truck, heading for a desperate life on the end of a short chain and untold misery. The same life was facing Violeta, if she lived, which was by no means certain.

The refugio was full. She couldn't afford the fine. But it was too much to bear. Isabelleke paid the money and took the little mother dog back in her car, to join the forty other homeless animals she cares for. She followed her instinct - she couldn't leave Violeta to her fate. Fabienne agreed. Now this beautiful dog is in foster care in Belgium. She's three years old now and so deserving of a forever home. Will you continue the work started by Isabelleke and continued by her wonderful foster family and look after Violeta for the rest of her life, the way she loved and protected her puppies.
