No wonder they called her Faith ....

A few weeks ago I posted a video, which I called 'Never Give Up, about a little dog who couldn't swallow normally. It showed how, with perseverance and ingenuity and a lot of love even a major problem like that could be overcome. Here's another story of love, compassion and determination.

She was born in December 2002 in the United States with three legs; two fully developed hind legs and a deformed front leg, which was amputated when she was seven months old after it began to atrophy.

When she was born, her mother Princess, a guard dog realized she was not going to be able to survive among the other puppies and was in the act of smothering her when a young boy, Ruben Stringfellow, seeing what was happening, leapt over the fence and grabbed her.
Hiding her under his jumper Ruben brought her home to his mother, Jude. Many people, including several vets, advised her to have the little dog put to sleep.  Instead, with an incredible amount of patience and love, Jude set out to help the little dog, whom she called Faith.

Using a spoon with peanut butter as an incentive, Jude taught Faith to hop but Faith decided, all on her own to walk; the family's corgi would bark at Faith from another room, or nip her heels to urge her to walk.

Although she is not the only two legged dog, who walks upright - there is a chihuahua in Texas, Faith is probably the most famous. Her owner Jude Springfellow wants to bring her round the world "to show that even a deformed appearance can have a perfect soul."

Faith greets everyone with a smile.

With thanks to Ineke and Marjolijn Spoor for the article and the photos.
