Fabienne's diary - Mama Bauke and her puppies were swimming in the mudslide ..

 Saturday, February 6, 2021

No one had expected the severe storm Filomena, but a premonition told me that we should have a look anyway. Veerle had just taken a look 15 minutes before and everything was okay, but I was not yet reassured, so Viktor went to take another look 15 minutes later, at our insistence, and then all hell broke loose.“Fabienne, ... Fabienne, ... and there we flew, as quickly as possible… ”

Mommies and their babies were swimming in the heavy mudslide, but as if in God's happiness we were able to save them one by one. Viktor and Noelia were there first and shortly afterwards our entire team, that's when you see how everyone's heart is in there.  Each of us took a puppy to heart, to keep it alert, and just rub it warm. Filomena (Mientje) and Tahre were in the worst state. We did not give up and persisted. Their frail bodies icy cold and without life in our hands. Now and then we looked at each other without words, with tears of helplessness but not giving up.  And we went on.  You heard them rattle and groan. They were alive, their hearts were beating, and as long as there was life , there was hope. It was a terrible experience.

When the vet came, we immediately brought in the large resources. We kept the puppies warm downstairs, and when our vet came downstairs much later, he spoke the words I will never forget: “They are alive, of course !! They will all be fine, we will not lose any life here today !! ” And he was right. Their eyes looked at us again and they breathed. Their gums got colour again and there was life in their eyes again…

We were so moved that each of us swallowed or blinked away tears, but what a team !! The mommy and puppies were saved, but also our big Tobbe and 300 other. Thanks to our team, thanks to all of us, all those who came to help.

This is one of the rescued families: mama Bauke, Tahre, Filomena (Mientje), Beckie, Brick, Bailey, Banjer and Bellamy. They were the hardest hit and had to be fished out of the water.  It may be called a miracle that they still alive but they are doing it - unbelievable but true - all super good !!

I already say, these have 7 lives. They were saved from the campo, born in a bush. They had no human being who loved or cared for them, with their dear mama, because she is so good.  And now this. But they are still there, they are still alive, and now somewhere they have to be shamefully pampered, cherished and loved, we will give them that.
