Miracles ..

... they do happen and they truly are miracles. But miracles don't just happen, they need a bit of help. Help in the form of devotion, care, an attitude that says 'never give up, never give up, never give up.'  In this post you'll see just a few of our recent miracles. Only weeks ago you wouldn't have given much for their survival. Thanks to the care of all at El Refugio and above all to the determined love of their foster parents they have not only survived. They are healthy and happy.

DeDiego aka Henry

We found him chained to our gates, more dead than alive. Never has the expression 'skin and bone' been more apt. Yet in spite of this the little tail was wagging.

You could barely see the colour of his coat, there was so little fur on his small body.

Look at the sweet chap now. He's well on the road to recovery, thanks to the special care of our vets who took him into their home and fostered him while he healed.

Sloeber

He was dumped with his friend Tygo. Our vets didn't hold out much hope, he was in such a terrible state. Sloeber too had given up, he didn't want to go on. His foster mother had other ideas.

Thanks to her loving care and her refusal to give up, this handsome loveable dog is now better and looking forward to a new life. Thanks to her he has recovered the will to live.

Vida

Fabienne was driving late at night when she suddenly saw a dog dash across the dangerous road. She stopped, expecting to have difficulty catching it. Much to Fabienne's surprise the dog jumped straight into the car and promptly fell asleep. Her suppurating wounds stank - she was suffering from terrible neglect - Fabienne drove her straight to the vet.

Thanks to the care she received Vida was soon on the road to recovery.

Just look at this beautiful girl now. These photographs were taken barely a week after she was found.
