Lola (ACE Froukje, 1836)

Lola van Geffen, as we call Froukje these days, is doing very well.

Lola has now changed from puppy to a big TEENAGER! She weighed 14.8 kg on January 21 and last week it turned out that she had passed 20 kg, which is 20.4 kg.

We suspect that she is now between 9 and 9.5 months old, so I think she will still grow a bit.

Her biggest hobby is still food. When she gets her meals she takes on the shape of a kangaroo. She skips and turns pirouettes and sits down nicely when her meal is on the floor until she gets a kiss on the head. The food is more or less inhaled, despite the anti-shock bowl, although it is already a bit less.

Her second biggest hobby is Juffrouw Rieten, our 17.5 year old cat. She thinks Rietje is very sweet, but sometimes it goes too fast with her big legs. Rietje finds it the worst when her head disappears into Lola's mouth. We correct her as best we can. It is true that Rietje actually likes Lola. Sometimes these two sunbathe together, so it's not all doom and gloom about this relationship.

She is in awe of our male De Knoeck. De Knoeck hit her hard a few times in the beginning. Solved.

She is sweet to people and other dogs. Sometimes a bit rough, but that will also be a bit due to her age.

We walk a lot, but always on a long leash as we have a lot of game in the forest here. A few times a week we go to Blaricum to the enclosed hiking area. She really enjoys that and likes all dogs. She walks out every dog with three fingers in her nose. And she runs beautifully!

It seems that there is a dog racing track in Flevoland… just kidding.

Furthermore, Lola van Geffen is not a finely-strung girl. She often lets wind and belches a lot. It doesn't bother us, but you may now understand why her name is what she is called. A real Van Geffen!

In terms of health, things are also going well. We had a hiccup about a month and a half ago. She had giardia. With two Panacur cures that was over after 10 days. Happy. We have also adjusted her diet in consultation with the vet.

In addition, she has problems with “mud” in her eyes. We try to solve it first with a vitamin ointment. If that does not work sufficiently, we will switch to a course of antibiotics.

We keep an eye on erhlichia, leishmania and filaria as our vet is very keen on this.

She is now, and I am now knocking it off, toilet trained. It took a while, but I think we have now completed it. Of course, that also has a bit to do with the weather and the rewards she gets when she indicates that she wants to go outside to pee or poop. At first it was difficult to recognize when it was urgent. In the meantime, we suspect her of “hmmmm, would you like some candy”, but yes, you can't have everything.

Although we had forgotten how much work a young dog is, we are still very happy with Lola and she is becoming more and more fun. Sounds corny, but she's getting more and more character.
