If you look at our Refugio from a distance, you see hundreds of dogs and cats. Once they were welcome and loved. Today they wait resignedly, but with enormous sadness, for what will happen. Many of them come from hunters or from a bad background, and after a week are happy and grateful. Wagging tails, happy little faces.
However, the four-legged friends that come from a family or a good owner, who were spoiled for years and then came to us, who mourn. Their grief is deep and real. No comedy nor pretending. Their grief lasts, or it turns and they pick themselves up. We have also experienced a dog that is so upset that he or she stops eating, stops living. They give up.
Why do people make expensive purchases and maintain brood breeders? Something you cannot understand as a rescue. Today's diary is a call for the quitters, who cannot overcome their grief and urgently need love and attention. Think about it, a rescue dog is so grateful. Give them a chance.
