In memoriam Jaap

Our Jaap… ..

You came to us when you were already over 12 years old. You could not see well and walking was not going too well. But that's just why we wanted to take care of you with love.
No dog should die in a shelter, and certainly no old dogs who often already have a bad life
in their background. We wanted so much to make you feel that you were wanted and that we are unconditionally yours to keep.

It soon became clear that you were a dog with trauma. Some things were frightening
for you and then you bit. Very logical; after all, you did not know what you could expect from and buy the same token you didn't know if you would also get hit by us. We let you get used to it at your own pace and don't ask you to do anything, we just loved you. Ultimately, we have the experience that  confidence does come. With one dog it takes a few months, with the other dog more than a year or more.

You dear Jaap had not completely come to trust in men, but you trusted me after a few months.
I was able to lift and hug you and then gave you kisses that I was so happy with. At some point you even became playful in your old age. Unfortunately, your age also brought less fun.

In the evening, in the last months, you got restless and you weren't yourself any more.
When I lifted you up and took you in my lap, you calmed down a bit, but soon that was over. You could look at me as if you knew exactly what was going on. Those beautiful brown eyes… how precious those moments were.

At one point, you just stopped eating. We had tests and blood tests done and tried everything but you didn't want to go on anymore.

We let you go on May 29.

Dear Jaap, we have not been together for even a year but the time we were allowed to have was precious and we will always cherish it.

We miss you very much but we will see each other again ... .. until later dear Japie!

Marian and Piet.
