Every picture tells a story...
It's now more than two months since Spain began its Covid-19 Lockdown - one of the strictest anywhere in Europe. During that time we've had no choice but to cancel no fewer than three fundraising events - the lifeblood of every Charity.
In March we were looking forward to holding our first-ever event in Fuengirola, a Dinner at the well-known Dominique's Restaurant, with live entertainment from singing duo Lucy & Ollie. In April, we were to hold an Open Day at the Refugio. And then there was to be a BBQ in June at Snack Attack in La Cala de Mijas.
But it all became quite surreal. Just a week before the Fuengirola Fundraiser, we were busy collecting the gifts generously donated as raffle prizes by local businesses and ACE supporters... and then less than 24 hours later, we were back again, but this time to remove all the posters and flyers announcing the now cancelled event!
So, the last time ACE actually did hold a Fundraising event was the Christmas Dinner hosted by Los Olivos in Calahonda in December 2019, and featuring live entertainment from the Costa del Sol's favourite classically-trained singer, Laura Elen.
And the next event? Well, that's pretty much in the lap of the gods.
In the meantime, however, the 500+ dogs and puppies, as well as the 120-odd cats and kittens currently being looked after by ACE still need to be fed, watered and cared for; the bills inevitably continue to arrive; and unwanted canines and felines of all ages are still relentlessly dumped at the Refugio gate.
So, with events off the agenda for the foreseeable future, that's why ACE is currently holding its Online Fun Dog Photo Contest, in association with the Costa Connection Magazine. The deadline for entries is 11am on Thursday 28 May. Photos will be judged by Fabienne and her Team, and the winners will be announced on Global Radio, ACE Facebook and the Costa Connection website on Monday 1 June.
There are 6 different categories to choose from. You can enter as many photos as you like - each one costs €5... and the winners will each receive a personalised commemorative Certificate, plus a Rosette for their dog.
But best of all, and irrespective of whether or not you win, by taking part in the Contest, YOUR lucky and much-loved doggie gets the chance to help his or her less fortunate cousins! And we just know that would make his/her day...
