Our Coton - getting a little bit better every day
Coton's story is a sad one. He loved his boss, but his boss didn't treat him nicely at all. He kept poor Coton chained up on a balcony and visited him less and less. The neighbours tried to intervene but the boss wasn't listening. Then one day the unimaginable happened. Coton managed to free himself from his chain and jumped from the high balcony, breaking both his feet. He came to us. He has now had an operation and very soon we hope he wil have a very happy ending with his own family who will love and cherish this loyal, faithful companion.

We would like to make a collection of essentials for our clinic so we have things we need to hand.
It takes a lot of money to keep everything in stock.
Perhaps there are people among you who work in a hospital or know people who work in a hospital.
If they throw away the following items, please think of our dogs in Spain and take them for them.
* Sterile and non-sterile gloves
* Sterile and non-sterile gauze 10x10 cm
* Needles - white, yellow, blue and orange
* Spray
* Intravenous needles
* Intravenous tubing
* General bandages 7.5cm x 4.5m
* Face masks
* Alcohol to disinfect the clinic
* Alcohol to disinfect wounds
* Self soluble adhesive material
* Surgical blades for scalpels
* Sterile water

Bodegueroitos ... puppies, puppies, puppies - it's like a conveyor belt
Puppies and puppies and more puppies, ... No-one can keep up with this, everyone does their best and takes and rescues what they can, but the number of puppies being put into this world at the moment, without a future, makes you feel desperate.
Maybe it will get better with the years? No, it doesn't. It only gets worse - or it feels like that to me.
The killing stations dispatch them quickly, puppies can see the end of their lives within a day. Euthanasia is the solution there. We and many others in the area try our very best to save them within our capabilities, but unfortunately we too have our limits.
These three Bodegueritos are just three among the many who were lucky and came to us, ...
Three Bodegueritos, who like the Podencotios, are the most commonly disposed of dogs, which actually have little chance ... Three out of the hundreds ... thousands, ... It's just ... 3 lives, many others do not get that chance, We are also at our limit at the moment and must first find homes for the ones we have saved before we can again give others a chance.

This is how we do it !!
Dear ACE volunteers,
Our old 11 year female dog Lola who is a straydog from Syria welcomed him quietly at home. .
Funny as he was not used to sleep on his own bed, he used me as a cushion for his first hours asleep in the Hague. The first 3 days he gets to know the environment, the forest, the neighbours with their dogs.
And he is doing so well. No stress, no anxiety, as we let him do and learn at his own pace.
He eats well, likes the good quality food that will help get his legs and bones strong. All he has to do he does it outside, no diarrhea. He looks happy, and is funny in the way he acts and when he's finding out what he should do with what he sees or is given.
After a bit of anxiety for 2 days, he is now settled, feels at home, rests in between his walks in order to get acclimatised with all the new impressions he's experiencing.
In 2 days time we will go and train in a playful way in a special dog field (surrounded by gates) to see how he'll do when he can run freely and if he listens to come back. We live near a forest and the beach, it would be nice if after some time he can enjoy it by running around .
Enclosed are a few pictures of how he's getting used to his own bed (instead of my bed or the couch), a rest in the garden with our elder dog Lola, and one of him sleeping with his blue Kong (a specially dogproof toy, his best found friend).
In short, we love this guy, and thank all the volunteers in Spain who helped him to become such a nice character. He has many years to go still in an enjoyable doglife.

Carla - saved by a four year old child with a beautiful soul.

This is a wonderful event that must have a beautiful ending... Carla has saved her first dog.
One of our loyal Spanish volunteers has a 4 year old daughter. Her Mama is an animal activist
and a lovely lady who, like us, would do anything to save a life.
Last week they were walking in a forest with friends and were drinking a coffee in the cafeteria
nearby, the children were playing with each other around the tables on the terrace.
All of a sudden our volunteer couldn't see her daughter anymore, there was a big panic of
course, everybody looking for her...
Then she saw her daughter in the bushes, sitting on the ground, chatting to a Podenco, who
was sitting next to her, very relaxed.
When the mama came closer, the Podenco ran away. Little Carla was very upset, because
'her' doggy was very ill, she told her mother. 'She has to come with us Mama', crying and
crying. The Mama thought, I will let her sit for a while, maybe she will come back to my
daughter. She informed Carla that should the dog came back, she should pet her and then
carefully pull a leash around her head. Just keep sitting next to the dog, and Mama will come
and we will take her to the vet...Just don't let go of the leash, ok?
That was how it was done... and the tired Podenco came back to the child and sat next to
her, she let the child pet and cuddle her. Carla slowly put the leash over her head.... when
Mama came closer, she had to be very quick, but the dog Carla (named after the girl), came
with them. She was a mother who'd had many puppies, she was pregnant again and had a
lot of scars, was scared, but now was saved.
The girl Carla was so happy and proud, she had saved her first dog! Like Mama, like daughter.
They are our future, may there be many children like Carla, so that the fight against animal
suffering will still continue.
Carla, the Podenco mama is now with us and receiving the necessary care. She was lucky,
and now let's keep her safe and lucky.
