Chiikorita is home !! Her new life without neglect can begin ... May God make her happy ...
She has been saved again.  We realize that our arms are always open and many people try to tell us that we are crazy in the head ..... but I hold on to life ... and will as long as we can ... and ... provided it is in the best interests of the animal. Chikorita .. we let you go ... we put our trust in your new boss.

Update Marthe ...

Marthe

Marthe is doing well in the circumstances., it will always have a bit of a problem because, despite the operation, she is a dog that can never really have an easy, energetic life, even though the operations have been done in the best possible way.

The rehabilitation is going well, but the attack on her body was huge and she will never be perfect again. But our Marthe will be able to enjoy a quiet life with lots of hugs and respect for the brave Podenco that she is. Who is going to scoop up this darling girl so you can be so happy together?

Our oldest oldies : Part 1 - Ella and El Gordo

Our oldest oldies need warm homes and lots and lots of love

We love all our dogs. We worry about all our dogs. But some give us special concerns. The puppies usually get adopted quickly. Also young dogs also, though not always. Our handicapped dogs often find home more speedily than you'd think. All thanks to the compassion and love of our adopters.

Among those that cause us most concern are the long-stayers. The last one of a litter of puppies that sees his or her brothers and sisters leave for a new life but somehow, unaccountably, remains with us. Similrly, we worry about the dog who has been pampered and loved in a warm home and suddenly finds him or herself in a shelter. Though with us they get love as opposed to those poor unfortunates who end up in a killing station. I will try to highlight some of our long stayers soon. They are close to my heart.

And then there are the oldies. Almost inevitably, these are among those who have known the comfort of a home. Not necessarily, though. For among them are some who have spent their lives on the end of a chain, or subject to endless abuse in a gipsy encampment or at the hands of hunters. We have over forty dogs at the moment who middle aged or approaching old age, and I will hope to highlight these too. This time however, I'm going to present you with all our darlings who are over ten years old, some considerably older.

However, since it's taking a long time to write a post with all of our older oldies on, I will do them a few at a time.

Ella is eleven years old, a quiet and sweet girl, a darling. At the moment she is living happily in fostercare with our Isabellike with lots of other dogs, large and small, but she needs and deserves her very own forever home. Who will love Ella for the rest of her old life.

El Gordo

Dumped in killing station aged 11. What a terrible fate for a kind old dog who has never done any harm to anyone. Luckily we were able to rescue this darling Pitbull. He's the very soul of goodness. Gets along with every type of dog and can be placed with children, he's so gentle. A very cuddly boy who needs a family to love him in his old age.

Apologies!

Dear Everyone,

I haven't posted much last weekend or this one. When I am away I don't always have access to the technology I need for the blog i.e. my computer :)

Also, I am preparing a feature on our beautiful and very dear oldies and it's taking some time to put together. I may just do a few at a time so there aren't too many gaps in the posts.

I will certainly be posting again at the latest mid week.

So once again, I am really sorry but will make it up by doing lots more posts shortly.

Love Clodagh

ISIA (IZZY), sister of IRMA and ISAMAR

I just saw the pictures of IRMA and ISAMAR, on the blog. They arrived at Schiphol on 13th October.  We have had their third sister ISIA (now renamed IZZY) with us since 16th September. She is clever, obediant and occasionally a joker. She had already adjusted after just a month. I thought it might be nice for the other owners to know how she's doing. Here are some pictures.

Loulou jumped into the car spontaneously ...

When our volunteers were searching for a mother in distress after we'd ad a call about her, they suddenly came across Loulou, who was in a very advanced state of neglect. This oldie had a huge bump on her body, her skin was in a terrible state, she was not making a fuss about it. This weak dog came to them for a hug and didn't want to leave their side.

Suddenly, her owner showed up. He told them that a horse had stamped on her and she had been walking with this lump ever since. He hadn't done anything about it. Even though she looked so bad, he had nothing to say for himself. " What did they expect him to do about it" he said? He shrugged his shoulders and said, "Take her with you, I don't need her any more, I have no more use for him."

Loulou did not look back once, she jumped straight into the car and became one of ours ... Finally she is getting the care she needs. Loulou has a warm and sweet character, even though she has never known love.

Milka Puffy, a young mother who lost all of her kittens.

Milka Puffy, a young mother that lost all of her kittens...

Milka Puffy was probably dumped at a very young age. She lived in a cat colony that gets food everyday.  We try to be in time and sterilize as many as possible, but unfortunately there are sometimes cats when we are not in time.

This sweetheart with a gentle character and focussed on people, was found in the stem of an old tree, together with her kittens. When we wanted to take them, we saw that none of the kittens was alive.... the mother kept licking them like she was hoping that they would come back to life... but help came too late.

We took Milka Puffy with us, all confused and fighting for her kittens. She was rushed into surgery... the circumstances she had to live in were inhumane... Milka Puffy is slowly doing better, is being taken good care of and is now an affectionate cat. Click here for more information.

Our Beagles.

We all know how these innocent, defenseless dogs, and so many other animals, come into the hands of laboratories.

We were able to save a few from the university of Cordoba - 4 of them were lucky enough to come into our hands, thanks to a vet who wanted to give them a bit of hope after years of being used for testing.
Xantos, Denise, Remy and Zander are saved. In the beginning they were in shock but we are all so surprised at how well they have adjusted.

How they come up to us for a nice cuddle and are immensely thankful for every cuddle, every pet on the head... they are beginning to play, are going to the play field with the other dogs... it was a surprise how happy they still can be.

Denise, the female is the most timid one, but she is happy to cling onto you, the tail wags so hard once she knows you.

The boys were more assertive - happy characters. It will be really worth it to give one of them a warm basket. Beagles are lovely dogs, always in a good mood and they will make you smile everyday. Whatever happens in your life, they will always be there with their funny ways. They have good characters, are ocassionally a bit stubborn but even that can be discussed...

Also Einstein, Tango and Yerik are still waiting for their golden baskets... everyone a true sweetheart. Give one of them a chance... they are the most thankful sweethearts...

Mich and Micheline, living together in the cat colony

Mich

Micheline

Mich and Micheline were found in the cats colony, just up the hill from the Refugio. They have a good time with the cats ...  they are clever puppies who kept going on their funny short legs, still loving humans despite being mercilessly dumped.  Mich, is the black fellow, and Micheline, the brown girl, both are about 4 months old and real babes.

Two flights arrived at Schiphol on 6th October

Last night there were 2 flights. On the first flight Dolcita arrived, a little black lady. She was picked up by her new bosses, who had already enjoyed a week in Spain.

On the 2nd flight, Elisa, Willem and the 2 pussycats, Joana and Bau arrived. Willem is going into fostercare, so he is still looking for his own owner. He's a cute dog very happy and very sweet. The 2 pussies went to the same owner. Bau was wearing a collar so they could tell them apart. Elisa was already sitting on her new owner's lap.

The owner of the kitties and Willem's foster mum had each brought a bag of treatss for the rest of the Refugio.

Home Sweet Home for these 5 darlings!
